Using TATTOO SPRAY®

What is TATTOO SPRAY®?
+

TATTOO SPRAY® is a registered and certified medical device for protecting fresh tattoos. It forms a breathable, protective barrier that replaces clingfilm, adhesive wraps and gels. It is not cosmetic, not perfume and not hand made. It is produced entirely in the UK under ISO 13485 and GMP with a full Quality Management System, Declarations of Conformity and medical device insurance. It is fragrance-free because fragrance has no place on freshly tattooed skin.

How do I use it?
+
  1. CLEAN — Wash with a fragrance-free, pH-balanced antibacterial or antimicrobial soap. Rinse warm, then cool.
  2. DRY — Pat dry with a clean towel or sterile gauze.
  3. SPRAY — Apply 2 to 3 light coats, allowing each to dry about 60 seconds.
  4. REPEAT — Wash off and reapply every 24 hours for up to 5 days.

  • Warm to cool rinse — Warm improves surfactant action and removes plasma and lubricant. Cool calms the area and reduces weeping.
  • Barrier — The film is semi-occlusive and oxygen-permeable. It supports re-epithelialisation while avoiding maceration.
  • Hygiene — Ethanol reduces surface microbial load during application.
  • Technique — Several light coats give even, flexible coverage.
When should I apply the first coat?
+

Let the tattoo settle and weep, then CLEAN, DRY and spray.

  • Fine line or micro-linework — 10 to 15 minutes. Aim for a clean, dry surface with minimal weep.
  • Medium saturation or mixed styles — 15 to 25 minutes. Remove excess plasma during CLEAN.
  • Heavy saturation, colour packing or full-day sessions — 20 to 30 minutes. Prioritise thorough CLEAN and DRY to avoid trapping excess fluid under the barrier.

Important — Poor technique or severely overworked skin cannot be corrected or protected by TATTOO SPRAY®. The product protects good work and good prep. It does not fix trauma.

How long does one application last?
+

Up to 24 hours, depending on washing and activity. It wears off naturally as skin regenerates.

What if it gets wet?
+

It is not waterproof. If it gets wet, CLEAN, DRY, then reapply a thin coat.

Compatibility and restrictions

Can I use other aftercare with TATTOO SPRAY®?
+

No. Do not combine with balms, creams, foams, oils, gels, wraps or finishers. TATTOO SPRAY® replaces them entirely.

Is it suitable for all skin types and all tattoo styles?
+

Yes. Suitable for all skin types and every style, including colour, realism, linework and fine detail. For heavy saturation or large pieces, skin prep is critical. Allow the tattoo to settle and weep, then CLEAN thoroughly before first spray to avoid trapping excess plasma or ink.

What if numbing spray or cream was used?
+

Ensure any numbing products are fully washed off before spraying.

  • Source — In the UK, only use pharmacy-supplied medicines authorised by the MHRA.
  • Legal and insurance — Using unlicensed products or applying medicines without proper authority or SOPs may invalidate an artist's insurance and expose the artist to liability. Maintain documented hygiene and QMS processes.
  • Patch approach — If concerned, treat a small corner first, wait 10 to 15 minutes, then complete coverage.
Can I use green soap?
+

No. It is a medical prep soap for intact skin, often fragranced and not pH balanced for healing tissue. Use a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial or antimicrobial soap.

  • Fragrance — Fragrance and essential oils are common irritants on compromised skin.
  • pH and surfactants — Harsh anionic surfactants can irritate healing tissue and slow recovery.
Can I use it on other wounds or piercings?
+

No. It is formulated for fresh tattoos only.

Can I wear clothes over it?
+

Yes. Once dry, the flexible barrier does not stick to fabric.

Alternatives compared

Is TATTOO SPRAY® better than clingfilm?
+

Yes. Clingfilm is non-breathable and traps heat, sweat and bacteria. TATTOO SPRAY® creates a breathable barrier that protects without maceration.

Click for more info
  • Breathability — Clingfilm is occlusive and increases moisture build-up and bacterial load.
  • Heat and sweat — Raises local temperature and sweat, softening tissue.
  • Outcome — Higher risk of irritation and scabbing vs a semi-occlusive spray film.
Is TATTOO SPRAY® better than adhesive wraps (second skin)?
+

Yes. Adhesives can cause reactions and trap plasma. TATTOO SPRAY® has no adhesive, forms a flexible barrier and washes off cleanly at 24 hours.

Click for more info
  • Adhesive reactions — Contact dermatitis and tearing on removal.
  • Trapped exudate — Pools plasma and can macerate the surface.
  • Removal — Film wash-off is gentler and repeatable daily.
Is TATTOO SPRAY® better than gels or balms?
+

Yes. Many gels and balms are occlusive, can mix with plasma and add fragrance. TATTOO SPRAY® is contact-free, fragrance-free and maintains moisture balance.

Click for more info
  • Occlusion — Heavy occlusion can trap contaminants and slow re-epithelialisation.
  • Residue — Oily films can smear, attract debris and transfer to clothing.
  • Hygiene — Aerosol application reduces handling and contamination.
Is TATTOO SPRAY® better than bandages or gauze?
+

Yes. Bandages can stick, shed fibres and cause friction. TATTOO SPRAY® forms a smooth barrier with no fibres and no drag.

Click for more info
  • Adherence — Gauze can bond to exudate and lift surface cells.
  • Friction — Movement rubs the surface and irritates edges.
  • Cleanliness — No lint, no snagging, no adhesive residue.
Is TATTOO SPRAY® better than dry healing?
+

Yes. Dry healing risks dehydration, scabbing and contamination. TATTOO SPRAY® keeps a clean, breathable barrier that supports smooth healing.

Click for more info
  • Hydration — Semi-occlusion limits transepidermal water loss without over-wetting.
  • Protection — Shields from friction and microbes while allowing oxygen.
  • Outcome — Less scab formation and less colour loss vs open exposure.
